The morning started off slowly with no bids.  I’d left Kate with her eyes glued to the inbox ready to update the screen while I was out scouting.  However, it was in last minutes that bidding became most intense as two offers arrived within seconds of one another.  As 15.00hrs arrived the lucky winner captured Torres for the amazing sum of £800 which will go directly to Lupus West Midlands.

The winning bidder will now be able to proudly display Torres alongside his team mate Gerrard  - Woawh – how jealous am I?

Myself and Viki left the Midlands at 5:30 am and headed for Liverpool’s Melwood Training Ground where we had been invited to meet Fernando Torres. The meeting was held at 8 am due to Fernando’s busy schedule, as he continues his rehabilitation from surgery.

Fernando was amazed by the painting.  He was keen to find out about Lupus and my plans to run the London Marathon.  He was also hopeful that his signed portrait would fetch more than Stevie G’s!

I’m also pleased to announce that the auction will feature on the official Liverpool FC Website, which is fantastic news.  It is hoped that it will significantly help in raising awareness of Lupus to millions of LFC fans around the world!

I travelled to meet Andy Bishop, Bury FC striker, today to get the next stage of the fundraising underway.  Andy and the club have donated a signed Bury FC shirt along with 2 match day tickets for a home game following the auction’s completion to raise funds for Lupus UK.  Andy is mine and Viki’s cousin and so we are really grateful for all the support he has generated to raise the profile of Lupus.  Thanks Cous.

After arriving at the ground and having a quick coffee, Andy handed over the fantastic shirt, a picture of which you can see here. Unfortunately, the planned lunch was postponed as Andy, who is recovering from surgery, has been given the go-ahead to resume full training so we may see him back in action sooner than expected.

When we arrived we were greeted by a representative from [...]]]> This Friday proved to be another great experience on my journey to raising funds for Lupus UK as I travelled to the Liverpool training ground with my sister Viki to get this fantastic portrait of Steven Gerrard, by Wendy Mallas, signed.

When we arrived we were greeted by a representative from the Liverpool Press Office who showed us around the facilities and saw the European Cup.

After physhiotherapy Steven came out to meet us and sign the portrait. He was impressed with the work and was more than willing to sign it for the good cause. He wished me luck in my challenge and posed with us for some pics.

When I finally managed to prize Viki away from Steven’s side, we made our way home to get the live auction underway! Remember that if you want to bid for the signed portrait or you know someone who might be interested send your bid to gerrard_auction@me.com. SPREAD THE WORD!!!!
