Last Tuesday is a day that I’ll remember forever. I had the greatest pleasure of enjoying a coffee with World Footballing Legend Paul Gascoigne!
Paul had generously offered to help my fundraising for Lupus by signing a portrait by Wendy Mallas. Every time I see one of Wendy’s paintings I say it is the best yet, but her painting of Paul is just fantastic and the magic that is Paul Gascoigne just makes this one so special.
Meeting Paul was incredible, his beaming smile and personality are just so infectious. I was in total awe of a guy who I grew up wanting to be. He is such a funny, caring guy, telling joke after joke. As we enjoyed a cuppa we talked about Lupus and the painting and we were both excited about how much it could raise from the auction.
As I was saying my goodbyes, Paul produced a poster of the famous Euro 96 ‘Dentist Chair’ depicting the celebrations after he had scored one of the greatest ever England goals. He signed it personally to me. I was speechless. It is now taking pride of place on my wall at home.
